Oh joy, someone else who buys the propaganda and has a knee-jerk reaction to DU ammunition without even knowing what it is or how it is used. In the British Army Depleted Uranium in used in the L27A1 APFSDS rounds fired by the 120mm L30A1 gun of the Challenger 2 tank. This ammunition has one purpose and one purpose only – to penetrate the armor of enemy tanks. It is not used to do anything else. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APFSDS DU is used in these rounds because it is more effective at penetrating tank armor than the next best alternative, tungsten, a metal commonly used for such ammunition since WW2. And it is orders-of-magnitude better than the next best alternative, hardened steel. To my knowledge the British do not use DU in any other ammunition, APDS rounds for the 30mm L21A1 Rarden gun of the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle using Tungsten as this gun is used against less heavily armored targets than tanks.
