Do the stratus clouds show different colors other than blue and gray?
Clouds are usually shades of white and gray, varying from very bright white to very dark grey, due to white light (sunlight) being reflected or absorbed by the water droplets in the cloud. Sometimes it may seem that the clouds are red, orange, blue, or other colors of the “rainbow” (part of the electromagnetic spectrum). Actually, light is being separated into its different wavelengths, or “refracted”, by particulates and water vapor droplets within the cloud which makes the cloud appear to be a certain color. An example is the reddish-orange appearance of clouds and sky at sunset.
