Do the school food standards apply to nursery schools and nursery units within primary schools?

0

Maintained nursery schools and nursery units within primary schools are not required to comply with the food-based and nutrient-based standards for school lunches or the food-based standards for school food other than lunches that are mandatory in maintained primary and secondary schools. Nursery schools and nursery units within primary schools are instead required to comply with the existing food-based standards (for lunches only) introduced in 2001. Additional guidance regarding healthy eating in early year’s provision is available from the Caroline Walker Trust. They have produced a guide called ‘Eating well for under 5s in child care’ that provides advice on what eating well means for this age group, and practical advice to all those who are involved in the early years sector: www.cwt.org.uk/publications.
