Do the Regional Extension Centers provide any sort of assistance to other types of providers in their service areas, or only to priority primary-care providers?
Regional Extension Centers furnish assistance, defined as education, outreach, and technical assistance, to help providers in their geographic service areas select, successfully implement, and meaningfully use certified EHR technology to improve the quality and value of health care. Pursuant to the statute, direct technical assistance is prioritized to primary-care providers, but all providers in the service area are welcome and encouraged to participate in outreach and educational opportunities made available through the Regional Extension Centers. In addition, RECs are welcome to use other sources of income to support more intensive efforts with providers other than priority primary care providers.
