Do the new resident work hours rules really protect residents from being overworked?
Yes. We take these regulations seriously, and make every effort to promote resident health and well being. On-call residents usually go home by noon on post-call days. Our newly instituted night-float system allows our PGY 2 and PGY 3 residents to take call less frequently, and keeps residents from working more than 80 hours per week.
