Do the Native Americans still live in TeePees and wear feathers?
The Native Americans who reside on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation do not live in TeePee’s. Native Americans now reside in concrete houses and most were recently re-built, after Hurricane Andrew. Prior to the concrete houses, they lived in wooden houses. The traditional Miccosukee’s lived under a thatched roof stucture, known as a “chickee”. Some of the chickee’s were enclosed with four walls for living, while others were open for cooking and meetings. None of the Native Americans on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation wear feathers. Feathers are still worn by Native Americans in the West, during traditional ceremonies and for tourists.
