Do the medical providers contact on-line medical control to perform their procedures and administer medications?
The Albany Med FLIGHT nurses and paramedics are trained to function with clinical autonomy in the prehospital setting. All procedures can be performed on standing orders without contacting medical control in order to save valuable time. In the event that medical control is desired as a preference for patient care, the flight team can contact an Albany Medical Center Hospital attending emergency physician by radio or by a cellular phone. Although the medical team is allowed substantial flexibility with the skills they provide, each Med FLIGHT mission is reviewed by the Medical Director and the Chief Flight Nurse to assure that proper care is being provided to the patients.
