Do the lozenge containers need to be disposed of in a special manner?

Yes. All OASAS facilities need to be aware of the regulations and proper handling of waste by-products of NRT. In particular, the POPPAC containers that the lozenges are packaged in are to be handled as Pharmaceutical Hazardous Waste in NYS. In most cases, the proper disposal of the lozenges POPPACs (which are heavy plastic containers) should be disposed in haz-waste places facilities in the large generator status with all of the incumbent stricter regulations. Programs should consider use of the other NRT’s to solve this problem.
