When understanding the concept of balancing an engine, it is helpful to think of the crankshaft as being “split” lengthwise into two halfs. One “half” would be the counterweight side of the crank, and the other half would be the side with the rods and pistons. When you balance an engine (or crankshaft) essentially what you are doing is making the counterweight
