Do the HEPA filters need cleaning between replacement?

No! The reciprocating flow of air helps prevent the buildup of large dust particles. The filters are largely self-cleaning. Micron sized particles are trapped in the filters and reduce flow with time. Since only about 1% of the total mass of dust in the air is in this size range, it is easy to see why it will take many-many times longer for the PuriFresh filters to clog compared to a console HEPA filter in which the flow is in one direction and all the dust collects on one side.
