Do the contractors that College of DuPage uses reflect diversity? How does COD attract minority contractors?
College of DuPage is committed to diversity. Our “Business Enterprise Program” encourages participation by local-, minority- and women-owned vendors and other disadvantaged vendors in the College’s bid and procurement processes. The annual goal is that a minimum of 15 percent of all vendors solicited would fall into those categories. We achieved 39.1 percent in FY ’09, far exceeding our goal. Of the 186 minority vendors solicited that year, 48 responded with bids and 14.6 percent of them were awarded. In order to maintain an active recruitment in this crucial area, Purchasing Department staff members attend minority vendor conferences. When the Facilities Master Plan was initially established, COD and key community partners held a workshop specifically aimed at minority contractors to explain the plan and the process for bidding.
