Do the Citizens Advice Bureaus Offer Debt Advice?
The changing economic climate over the past few years has affected many people – unprecedented numbers have lost their jobs and the prediction is that thousands more will become an ‘unemployment’ statistic during the next 12 months. As you might expect, there is a strong relationship between the number of people that are unemployed and the number of people entering insolvency solutions such as Bankruptcy, Debt Relief Orders or Individual Voluntary Arrangements. In fact, if we’re to believe the projected number of public sector redundancies being widely quoted, insolvencies could soon increase by 20%, reaching record levels. As more and more people find themselves wrestling with a downward spiral of debt, demand for the services offered by free debt advice services is likely to exceed supply. Indeed, in some regions, people in need of urgent support are waiting weeks for a Citizens Advice Bureau appointment and things are likely to get worse as a result of the Government spending review
