Do the Carpenter ants do any damage?
Carpenter ants can do damage over time. They only use the wood to live in, not to feed on. Therefore, they destroy the wood over a period of time, certainly not as rapidly as termites. A carpenter ant nest in the home indicates some moisture damage to the wood. You will want to investigate this as well. It could be a previously leaking roof, for example. In my report I list all possibilities that I ever found. Sometimes the water damage is benign and you don’t have to fix anything. Sometimes it can create mould, if the moisture gets trapped and building materials can’t dry out fast enough. Mold and mold spores can be dangerous to breath over time and if your health is fragile, you will want to investigate this. The source of the water damage has to be stopped and then mold should be removed, esp. in drywall and carpet as the mold can be all the way through and not only on the surface. Borax helps to prevent mold growth. You can find it in the detergent aisle of your grocery store. Carp
