The secretion of HCl does not need CA enzyme. The secretion of bicarbonate is the one that needs CA enzyme e.g. in the pancreas and renal tubules. The H+ ions are derived mostly from the oxidation of sulfur-containing (methionine and cysteine) and cationic (arginine and lysine) amino acids, and the hydrolysis of that component of dietary phosphate that exists as H2PO4.
