No, the batteries may emit a small amount of hydrogen gas at the end of the charging cycle, and hydrogen is perfectly safe to breathe and for the environment. In high concentrations hydrogen can be flammable however; so it is recommended to keep the vehicle away from sparks or open flames while charging indoors.
