Yes, AG (above ground) contact means just that above, not touching the ground. GC (ground contact) means on or in the ground. Most states require a heavier treatment for ground contact when constructing projects such as post frame buildings, a home or even a deck that is attached to a home, thus we also treat to GCS (ground contact structural use).
