Do teams want the carling cup?
Arsenal and Man Utd don’t treat the Carling Cup very seriously, they play their youngsters. Man Utd may field Ronaldo tonight but i think that’s just to get him fit for the Premier League games. Arsenal go after the Premiership and Champions League every year then next is the FA Cup and last is the Carling Cup. Arsenal still get quite far in the Carling Cup as our youngsters usually do very well. Chelsea take the Carling Cup seriously as they want to win whatever trophy and Liverpool will only take it seriously if they get to the late stages of the competition.
Teams do want to win the Carling cup but it does not have the importance which the FA or Premier league has… teams tend to care about their players’ fitness rather than the Carling cup.. however, i think teams who don’t get much silverware, like the lower league teams or the teams that are usually in the bottom table of the Premiership want to win that cup to add some silverware to their store.
my team is not a big team, Im a Southampton supporter and we have drawn Rotherham tonight, in all honesty, I would rather get knocked out of this competition and concentrate on the league, I would rather take 3 points than another round of this cup. Yes it would be great to think of the ticket money, but the turmoil my club is in, we probably will not have many away fans travelling to Rotherham on a Tuesday night, and if we progress to the next round, again, will we get a home draw, will any money raised by ticket sales, merchandise etc will only get ploughed into the pockets of our corrupt chairman/men who have not invested in my club since they have regained control. So on that note, I say sod the cup, give me the 3 points in the league and get my club out of the crisis it is facing.
