Do teachers in the USA (Texas in particular) get paid all year round?
In my experience, teachers get a yearly salary. They can choose to get that salary in 10 payments or in 12 payments. All the teachers that I know choose to get paid year-round (12 payments). My daughter is also a teacher. As a first year teacher in a school district north of Houston she is getting $41,500. As a technology teacher with 25 years experience, I will be getting about $53,000. Both of us have chosen 12 payments. We have to take classes in the summer to keep our teaching certificate updated. We also revise our curriculum and write plans and assessments for the major units of study for the next year. We also read and study major teaching publications including books, journals, and white papers by professors in our area of expertise. Teachers also have to schedule yearly physicals, dental visits, veterinary updates for our pets, and many more things we just don’t have time for during the year.
