For students enrolled in grades 3-7, an assessment appropriately targeted to a higher grade level can meet the participation requirement for the required content areas, and the student does not need to also take the grade level assessment. Students enrolled in grade 8 must first complete the grade 8 assessment to be counted as a participant in their grade 8 year.
