Do students need to know what area of engineering they will major in when they begin the freshman year?
Engineering students, though admitted directly to the College of Engineering, do not need to declare a major or discipline until the end of the second year, though most declare before that time. Students have many Degree Options and are guaranteed entry in their selected engineering discipline as long as they are in good academic standing. The exceptions to this are Engineering Physics which requires a GPA of 2.8 to declare and Biomedical Engineering which requires a 3.2.
