Do structured workout programs work?
To keep our fit phenomenon anonymous, let’s call her Mindy. When arriving at the gym, she is mentally revved up for her workout today. Her color-coordinated active wear greatly enhances her physical proportions. Without particularly attempting to draw any attention, the men in the gym cannot help but notice her aesthetically pleasing figure. No ipods are plugged into her ears to pump her psychologically. All of her attention is focused on the program ahead of her. Does Mindy have a plan of attack today? Where is her structured program? Ah ha! There is her trademark: her blue clip board with a meticulously typed plan for the day. Already there are scribbles across the page with detailed instructions to perfect her form, increase weights, or improve range-of-motion. Determination, grit, and sheer endurance characterize each and every exercise repetition. During that last rep of the set, you may even hear a grunt or groan as she unbelievably cranks it out with quivering legs or arms. Huff
