Do squirrels eat tomato plants?
Unlikely. Unusually, squirrels cannot digest cellulose. Once in a while they will eat vegetation but it is not a main staple. Squirrels are, at this point, omnivorous scavengers who can easily be trained to rely on the gifting of peanuts to them, say, by students at a college where both the squirrel and the student have become endemic. When faced with the danger of starvation, a squirrel might chew a tomato; then again, it might also feel forced to eat a mouse. None of this would be its diet of choice. If you are having problems with vegetable garden pests, your most likely bet is NOT squirrels.
