Do south african blacks like speaking afrikaans?

0

It’s a myth that Black South Africans don’t like to speak Afrikaans. The more reasonable route would be that many don’t know how to speak Afrikaans in a formal way. I’m Black in this context. I grew up not knowing much of formal Afrikaans, but we spoke a lot of Afrikaans as part of our township lingo. Most of the two generations of township language, viz. tsotsi taal and iscamto are higly tinged in Afrikaans, with the latter being dominated by isiZulu words and the former by Afrikaans words. I grew up speaking good Afrikaans sentences but was never aware as i took for granted that I was talking the language og ekasi. The guy you met is either confused or didn’t want to talk to you. Maybe he disappeared because he feared that staying longer with you would expose his deep knowlegde of the language, which he thinks is cool to despise. Personally, I’m learning a lot to feel comfortable to speak Afrikaans in a formal setting. It’s a cool language. In fact it’s African compared to English.
