Do some states prohibit playing skill-based games for cash and prizes?
The rules governing sweepstakes, contests and tournaments with entry fees or prizes are determined by each individual state (this information is for our United States-based players), not the federal government. In accordance with these laws, Mahjong Time does not offer fee-based tournaments in all states. We strongly believe that skill-based gaming is different from games of chance. In addition, unlike gambling sites where “the house” is financially involved in the outcome of a game, Mahjong Time only serves as a facilitator of the tournaments and does not make any money from the outcome of any tournament. We would encourage you to contact your state legislature if you disagree with your state’s policy.
