Do some orthodontists specialize on adults?
Yes, but is not necessary to go to a specialist for an adult to get treatment. Today, all board certified orthodontists are trained how to treat adult patients. The one thing to watch out for is that some orthodontists try to rush adult cases, so that they finish as quickly as teenage cases. While teenagers can get their braces tightened every 2-4 weeks, an a patient in their 50’s probably should not have their braces tightened any more often than every 3-6 weeks. If your orthodontist tries to rush it, tell him or her to slow down.
