Do some companies do phone interviews?
Some companies will do phone interviews first to narrow down the number of job candidates they are considering. Then, they will select some to bring in for a face-to-face interview. I have never heard of a company hiring someone after just a phone interview. I have had to do phone interviews, and believe it or not – they are harder! It is more difficult to get a feel for what the interviewer is thinking b/c you can’t see their expressions. Likewise, if you explain something kind of weird in an interview, you can usually smile and loosen the tension…you can’t do that over the phone.
