Do solid granite countertops stain and show water marks and dust?
Oils will stain granite, even if it is sealed. The extent of the staining will depend on both the type of oil and how long it is left on the granite, as well as the specific type, color and quarry location of the granite. Be careful with cooking oils and foods that contain oil. Acids will etch some natural stone products but should not stain or etch granite. Some etching may occur as a chemical reaction between acid and the sealant product used to seal the granite. Avoid using lemon or orange based cleaning products or harsh chemical with high acid contents. If the granite is not sealed and a water ring occurs, dry as thoroughly as possible and allow it to dry out. It should dry out and disappear within a few days. If the granite is sealed, it should not take a water stain. Dust will show up on just about everything. Just like you see dust on hardwood more than on carpet, the harder and shiner any surface is, the more dust you will see. So, wipe them down daily.
