Q Hi, I try to avoid products that contain animal ingredients and I also try to do the best thing for the environment, such as using LUX soap flakes to do washing and cleaning rather than chemical detergents. I was wondering if you know what this soap is made of, it doesn’t say on the box and I haven’t been able to find out. I don’t want to continue buying it if it’s made from animal fat or glycerine. Thanks a lot. A Unfortunately, I would say that these Lux soap flakes are made from tallow (animal fat). But I am not 100% sure. You would need to contact the manufacturer directly to be sure. Most major soap manufacturers still use tallow in their soaps. By the way, there are some ‘environmentally-friendly’ laundry/dish washing detergents available (100% bio-degradable, phosphate-free, no animal products etc.) and they work really well (e.g. “Earth’s Choice”, “Herbon”, “Aware”).
