Do sliding-glass doors qualify for the new energy-efficiency tax credits?
If you install an energy-efficient sliding-glass patio door or exterior French door in 2010, you could be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $1,500. Not all Energy Star doors are considered energy-efficient enough to qualify for the tax credit, which allows you to claim 30 percent of the product price, minus installation. Only glass doors with a U-factor of .30 or less and a solar heat gain coefficient of .30 or less will be eligible for the credit. This stringent requirement disqualifies most Energy Star doors. To prove your glass door qualifies for the tax credit, save your receipt, the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label that reveals the U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient, and the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement.
