Do sharks really taste through their skin?
No. In fact, there’s littel available evidence that sharks taste at all. Sharks have an amazing array of features that can sense prey. Their eyesight, contrary to previous belief, is thought to be relatively sharp. They can detect a blood trace as faint as one part per million. In their snout they have what are called the ampulae of Lorenzini, tiny gel-filled pores than can sense electrical fields. The lateral lines (probably what you’re thinking of) run along the sides of sharks and can keenly sense vibration in the water. The more erratic the vibration, the greater a chance there’s easy prey in distress. Hope that helps.
