It’s true Karl Marx was an atheist and called religion the opiate of the masses, but the communist manifesto contained much more doctrine than just atheism. Ever hear of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”? How about the abolishment of private property? There is a lot of confusion associated with the word communism. It has become a cover lable for any number of variations on the various principles of Marx, but to be correct there is a distinction between communism and socialism. They both believe in the abolition of private property. The primary difference between the two is whereas communism advocates the communal ownership of all property, socialism advocates that all property is owned by the state. Now one does not have to adhere to all the principles of Marxism or it’s offshoot socialism to be correctly labeled a socialist.
