All versions of the DS (original DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL) play DS games. No exceptions. If the DS game was made to use the cameras of the DSi or DSi XL, it will play on the DS and DS Lite, but obviously the functions that use the camera will not work. The DS and DS Lite have 2 slots, one for DS games and one for older GameBoy Advance games. The DSi and DSi XL have 2 slots, one for the DS games and one for an SD flash memory card.
