The black panther is actually a black cougar. Though extremely elusive these cats have been spotted from Florida to Kentucky. This would include the Carolinas. This cat is so elusive in the wild that a person could live their whole lives without seeing one. If you saw one consider yourself very fortunate. Most people will never see one in the wild.
