Do rangers have enough resources to prevent crocodile attacks?
MELINDA JAMES, PRESENTER: The warning from the Territory Coroner Greg Cavanagh this week couldn’t be clearer. Top End residents must face the fact that dangerous, man-eating animals live in populated areas. But handing down his findings into the death of 11 year-old Briony Goodsell, Mr Cavanagh also recommended more resources be provided to rangers who have the job of keeping crocodiles and people at a safe distance. Alison Middleton reports. ALISON MIDDLETON, REPORTER: Charlene O’Sullivan is still grieving, 12 months after her 11 year old daughter Briony Goodsell was taken by a crocodile in Darwin’s rural area. CHARLENE O’SULLIVAN, MOTHER: I don’t think you really get over it, but it gets easier to deal with. Some days are worse than others as normal, especially with Bethy, my youngest daughter, she struggles a lot more than what we do, but you know we’ve just got to spend time as a family and reflect on what Briony was and cherish the memories we have.
