No, private-school and home-schooled students are exempt from the WASL. Some private and home-schooled students, however, do choose to take the exam. Home-schooled students who want a diploma from a Washington public high school diploma must earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement or Certificate of Individual Achievement, and complete all other state and local graduation requirements.
