In the NAIS’s* recent study, “2004 Hot Issues Survey”, the constant challenge of balancing operating expenses with affordable tuitions has been made even more difficult by expansion of staff, skyrocketing unpredictable health insurance costs, the need to finance competitive salary and benefits packages and facilities maintenance and renovation costs. If independent schools are to stay dedicated to their missions of providing high-quality inclusive, diverse learning communities, they will need to contain costs and find alternate revenue streams that can help them keep tuitions affordable. Contracting custodial cleaning is one way private and parochial schools have saved money to achieve the balance they desire between operating expenses and affordability to remain viable for the future.
