Do police officers like their jobs? And can more education help me get promoted?
Typically a police officer will go feel differently about their job at different times during their career. Initially most officers love the job, work hard and try their best. This might last up to 5 years, when the officer starts to realize that no-one cares how many criminals they bust, that the only people with rights are criminals (not victims, not officers), that the justice system is a broken, that you only deal with scumbags, that society has such a double standard in dealing with police, expecting us to deal with violent criminals without using force, that the department will sacrifice you for political considerations and countless other reasons. This surprising enough causes a certain level of bitterness…some officers can’t get over it and remain bitter and cynical for the rest of their careers, other eventually move on, but will never be the public servants they were at the start of their careers. If you do get a college degree do not get one in criminal justice…get a deg
