Do polar bears require endangered species legislation?
Polar Bears are flourishing world-wide…their numbers are breaking records in some habitats. Alaskan Bear numbers are falling slightly due in part to melting sea-ice and illegal hunting said to kill 150-250 bears per year. That’s pretty significant given the total world population is around 20K-25K. However, the bears have recovered from numbers in the 50’s hovering at about 5,000 to 20,000-25,000 according to a 2005 measure.
