Do players who hit with wood bats become better players?
Yes. It is more demanding to hit with a wood bat. Your timing, mechanics, and ability to perceive and react to the type of pitch dominate your performance. When hitting with a metal bat, it is possible to make decisions later in the delivery of the pitch. Moreover, it is not threatening to swing at an inside pitch with a metal bat. These realities cause metal bat players to rely on the metal bat rather than develop skills to perceive pitches early and select pitches carefully. Developing these skills will be accelerated when using a wood bat. A former major league player who is now in player development has said, “If you take one hundred players who are major league caliber and who learned to hit with metal bats, only one of them will make the transition to be successful in the major leagues.” Moreover, we anticipate that the design and strength of Radial Bats will improve players’ performance relative to other wood bats.
