Do players ever contact the league on their own to try to get placed in the draft pool?
Yes, we routinely field calls from players trying to be placed in our league. Unfortunately, not all players are ready to play in the D-League but we leave no stone unturned when trying to identify the top players not currently playing in the NBA. Doc Martin (D-League Senior Manager of Basketball Operations), Brandon Barnett (D-League Senior Coordinator of Basketball Operations) and I watch countless hours of film and scout extensively during the year to identify the top candidates for the league.
