Do pets get cavities like humans?
Cavities are not as common in pets, but do occur occasionally. Cats do not get caries; they get tooth resorptions (previously referred to as FORLs – Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions). Resorptions usually begin at the gumline and erode into the the tooth causing painful lesions. It is estimated that 75% of cats 4 years of age and older have at least 1 tooth resorption.
