Do people try to put things in the recycling bin that don belong in there?
“You find a lot of things that are not appropriate to mention in the newspaper. The most common that can’t be recycled is shoes and clothing. Not hazardous materials like motor oil, because people are catching on. They know it’s dangerous. They know what they can’t put in. Once in a while someone will try to sneak something like that in.” Do you get to know people along your routes? “You do get to see the same people at the same time of day. Once you get a relationship with people they usually greet you. I’m only in front of their house for 10 to 12 seconds. On a hot day like this, you’ll get a bottle of water. You definitely befriend people along the route.” How did you get into this job? “I was living in New Hampshire and moving back to Massachusetts and looking for work, and my brother was working with Waste Management in recycling, and got me into this.
