Do people still sit down with the Sunday newspaper anymore?
…our paper circulation is down overall, but Sunday maintains very well. There is a lot of local coverage, wedding announcements, a larger-than-normal classified section, and the opinions page features local writers (one of them being me ). During the school year, Friday sells well because it contains the school newspaper (made by students) and preview stories for big game match-ups. Our Internet numbers are huge though. We get registrations from former residents from all over the country and overseas. With that, though, you get the local news headlines, but not any of the AP stories we run, you miss a lot of photos, and none of the community local-interest announcements (weddings, babies, card showers, etc.) We do run obits online. There’s also the problem of updating it. Plus, if the server goes down, you don’t get the news. You don’t have that problem if you buy the paper. There’s also something to be said for advertisements. Local businesses rely on print media to get the word out
