Do people make fondue anymore is it passe?
A few months ago, I bought an electric fondue pot at the local Deseret Industries thrift store. Since then, my wife and I have once tried a fondue recipe with some complexity, but many times have simply filled the pot with a mixture of shredded cheddar and jack cheese, and canned cheese sauce, such as the can pictured below. This mixture works very well, actually. The proper thing to dip in a cheese fondue sauce is bits of hard bread on the special fondue forks included with the pot; but lately, we mostly just use corn chips. It seems that there are some fairly narrow concepts of what constitutes a proper fondue, with regard to the composition of the sauce, and what you dip in it, but the basic concept actually has very wide applications; just about any sauce or liquid that is good hot, and anything that is good dipped in that sauce or liquid, works well.
