Do People In The Military Get Sent To Iraq Automatically After Basic Training?

*sigh* No, there is no automatic assignment to Iraq after basic training. There are, in fact, laws that mandate the minimum amount of training you must receive before being placed in combat. Combat assignments are almost always based on the unit you are assigned to being deployed. Individual orders do happen, but they are a) rare and b) almost always due to having some sort of special skill that is needed. That said, we are a nation at war –on two fronts at that– and the likelihood of being deployed at some time during your service is pretty high. That could even mean immediately after completing training. It can happen. Your ASVAB scores have nothing to do with anything at this point except to help determine which jobs the military will or will not offer you.
