Do people in China really eat monkey brains while the monkey is still alive?
Yes it was definately a practice at least in the late fourties. I knew somebody who was a member of the French Foreign Army and foughtin Vietnam in 1948 on the side of the French. They were close to the Chinese border and soemtimes they would go over to China for fun. He had seen but not participated in monkey brain dinners where the monkey was tied under a table and live coal was put under his feet so that he would jump. There was a hole in the table for his skull and the waiter cut his skull open. The guests were nibbling from the brain with chopsticks. Also, he saw ducks in cages, the bottom of the cages were hot plates. The ducks were jumping because of pain. Blood flWhen they could not jump anymore they were killed and the feets were served as a treat.
When I was a little girl in the early 50’s my father – who had been a major in the British army as a ship’s doctor – told me about this barbaric custom – he described the table and the eating. I just now looked this up as I wondered if what he had said was correct. I now see this on a video which confirms it. (The monkey appears to be dead after having his skull cracked with a few small hammers though he may just be unconscious.) I just never thought the custom would be continued in our more “enlightened” times. The people in the video do not look Chinese so I wonder where this scene takes place.
chinese are barbaric people! I have a friend who went on vacation in China, and she saw the horrific monkey and other animal cruelties! They really eat monkey brains and she even saw the monkey crying and screaming to death while blood flows into his face! They even slaugther dogs in the streets, even the dogs used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and they have such crueltry to wild animals, their skin animals alive in their fur farms without any exception to stray dogs and cats!Exotic foods doesn’t mean that you Chinese would have to be cruel to helpless animals! Watch peta and you will know how they really care for these animals..if they really do.
