Do people have to pay for continence aids such as pads?

People with a Pensioner Health Card who have significant incontinence due to a number of health conditions are eligible for the Continence Aids Assistance Scheme (CAAS) which contributes an amount (currently up to $470 annually) towards the cost of disposable aids. See the www.bladderbowel.gov.au web site for more information. The CAAS application form, available on the web site, can be completed by any doctor and also needs to be completed by the patient or family. Gold Card Veterans are also eligible for funded disposable aids through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA). Washable aids, bed and chair protection (e.g. Kylie sheets) and catheter equipment are available in Victoria through the Aids and Equipment Program. Necessary documentation can be completed by the regional continence service.
