Do patients taking penicillamine have a difficult time in general healing from surgery?
For all surgical procedures, it is recommended that the dosage of penicillamine be temporarily reduced to 250-500 mg per day until wound healing is achieved. Similarly, the dosage should be reduced during the last trimester pregnancy and until wound healing after childbirth is achieved. No such dosage reduction is needed for zinc treatment. – Michael Schilsky, M.D.
