Do parents know this about soy infant formula?
I just did some research on this as well. Our son is on a soy based formula and has had NO problems what so ever on it Soy formula: A safe alternative to milk based formula DEAR DR.PAUL: I have a four-month-old baby who has had problems with gas, spitting up and crying episodes related to stomach problems. He has been on the soy formula for almost two weeks now and it has made an unbelievable difference. Can he stay on soy formula as his only source of nutrition or do I need to supplement? PEDIATRICIAN DR.PAUL Answers: I just saw a patient the other day with the exact same situation. Indeed, the child did get much better on soy formula and the mother had the pretty much the same concerns as you. Before describing soy formulas, let me briefly summarize cow’s milk allergy. In some cases it is very clear cut: the child receives cow’s milk formula and gets an immediate allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling of the face and difficulty breathing. In other cases the symptoms are not as cl
I totally disagree with you. I have three children whom lived off of soy formula. That is the only formula they could take. The milk based ones made them all sick. The first had a lactose intollerant until the age of three. My second had a milk protein allergy. She just outgrew it at the age of nine. What else was there for them to drink? She could not have any milk products or ingredients because they made her lungs swell, asthma, hives, face rash, stomach ache, and diarrhea. Soy was the only choice for her. She is very healthy and has no issues. Soy has good benifits too. It lowers the risk of heart disease, which is common in my family. Cow milk is not good for anyone either, it is made for cow’s!
Wow, I certainly respect everyone’s opinion, but there seems to be a lot of people passing judgment on women who don’t or can’t breastfeed. I think that it is very sad. Understandably breast is best, but don’t pass judgment with such a broad spectrum. My son is on soy formula because he does have a milk allergy…so did my husband. It was recommended by my well qualified pediatrician, however I have an open mind and plan to look into the issues with soy that I was unaware of. I have to repeat myself on this…breast is best…but don’t pass judgment (calling women lazy etc.) without knowing the circumstances. That is an ignorant generalization. I am going to do some more research beyond Dr. Mercola’s website…
i actually have heard this which is why i try to discourage people i know from using soy formula (many people switch to it just because of gas or fussiness thinking it will help rather than a true milk allergy. (I never heard of those health hazards but i knew it was not as healthy for the baby). some have said the baby can’t break down the iron as well with soy so they can become iron deficient as well. if there is an allergy i think now they usually recommend the hypoallergenic formulas like nutramigen and alimentum rather than soy. but they always say cows milk formula is the absolute healthiest (next to breastmilk of course) there are times when a Dr. indicates soy is needed but i think too many people just switch to it without knowing all of these health issues with it. here is another interesting article: http://www.mothering.com/articles/growin…
