Do panthers live in the state of Mississippi and Louisana?
Answer Dear Christopher Thanks for your question. I also wish to thank the authors of the websites I consulted. I assume you want information about pumas (also called mountain lions or cougars), but I shall also give information about any sightings of leopards and jaguars in Mississippi and Louisiana. http://www.thejump.net/multimedia/cougar/cougar.htm has a video of a puma taken near Meridian, Mississippi, although http://library.thinkquest.org/3822/885945947760.htm says the Florida panther has disappeared from Mississippi. Buster Wolfe (http://www.cryptomundo.com/bigfoot-report/no-panthers-in-ms/) says the only panthers seen in Mississippi are escaped captives. Dr. Cathy Shropshire (http://www.wildlifemiss.org/magazine/sf99/feature.html) says the Florida panther is the only panther native to Mississippi. There have been several reported sightings, but most seem to be escaped captives. Dr Shropshire says that Florida panthers could live in Mississippi, but these are probably transient
